Story

Hi there, my name is Chengetai and i am currently employed in the early years sector teaching preschool in a children's center.

Originally from Zimbabwe, I came to England when I was 5 years old and have grown up in the UK.

A few years ago I had an opportunity to do some field work in Zimbabwe and go out into the rural areas and visiting orphanages and schools. It is only recently that I have realised that those experiences would cement my passion for Early Years Education.

Since then I have worked with Children 0-5 and families mainly in children's centers in the Northwest of England and London. Currently, the importance of Early Years Education is very much under represented in a lot of countries including Zimbabwe. I believe in the rights of children, especially that right to Education.

I would like to use my practical and theoretical experiences to deliver some training to the care givers in the orphanages to empower them to support the children's learning and would like to raise money to buy toys, educational resources and writing materials.

I would also like to provide a pack that would include ways in which the caregivers could promote children's learning by outlining some methods and techniques they could use. The money raised will also go to this as printing and laminating can be costly.

I will be going to Harare, Zimbabwe for 1 week and will aim to visit at between 2-3 orphanages. The knowledge that the children and the people who care for them will receive having this opportunity is invaluable, learning through play by using some of the amazing methods that I have learned from my own practices.

I hope that you are able to share my vision of a promising future for the orphans in Zimbabwe
