Story
Chepe is one the youths that has grown up in the Hogar Abierto, supported by EDELAC and QT, over the last decade in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
He is now 18 and leaving at the end of the year, but has one more year to go to finish high school. Due to financial constraints, EDELAC is having trouble offering a full scholarship to him and other youths in the same situation. By helping to fund his final year of high school, we can not only help Chepe but allow more of EDELACs funds to help the other young adults leaving the Hogar but continuing education.
The rough estimate we have is about 10000 Quetzales / £1000 / $1200 US, which would include his academic costs (yearly, semesterly and monthly payments to the college), materiel costs, graduation costs, uniform - the works!
Working with a former volunteer from the Hogar, we have committed to raise this from our money and talking to friends, family and people who have been lucky (unlucky!?) enough to cross paths with Chepe. We are each trying to raise half the amount, but the more merrier.
Detailed information can be provided on request - we're all about transparency!
