    Story

Lucas' Legacy is a registered charity raising awareness and funding for Childhood Brain Tumour Research to help find new and more effective treatments for other children. This is a charity that is very close to my heart because Lucas was a child in my class.

Lucas was a lovely boy. He was clever, kind and incredibly brave. Lucas became poorly in the May of 2015 and the following day he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Tragically he passed away just 11 weeks later, 4-weeks before his 7th birthday. Prior to this Lucas had never missed a single day of school.

During his illness, Lucas continued to be the happy, smiling boy that we all knew and he never once complained. He displayed strength and courage that any adult would be proud of. Lucas has had such a huge effect on so many people and we will never forget him, but we need to make sure that his legacy lives on.

Jo and Andy, Lucas' parents, have set up a charity in Lucas' name to try and prevent other families suffering in the way that they have. Sadly funding for brain tumour research is massively underfunded. 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year in the UK and more children, and adults under 40, die from this type of cancer than any other. Despite these numbers Brain Tumour research only receives just 0.5% of all cancer research.

With all this mind I have decided it's my turn to take the plunge and try to make a difference for Lucas. Inspired by the many amazing feats of others in Lucas' name and also spurred on by my approaching "big" birthday, I plan to run my first full marathon. On Sunday April 2nd I am going to run the Manchester Marathon, wearing my "Team Lucas" top with pride. I'm slightly terrified by this thought and it is not something I am going to find easy, but I will give it my all and make Lucas proud.

Please help me make a difference and support me. Every penny really will help to stop this happening to other families.
