I've raised £1250 to Support Debate Mate's Nepal International Programme

Some of you might know that, until last Friday, I volunteered at a primary school with the educational charity Debate Mate. During my weekly sessions I had the pleasure of mentoring Year Fives and Year Sixes in debating. Some of you might also know that I was a Debate Mate kid myself, and I can honestly say that this charity massively built up my confidence, public speaking skills, and leadership abilities.

So, it was a complete privilege to be selected for their international programme to Nepal, which takes mentors from the UK to teach Nepali children. I’ve gone to Nepal for the past two summers, it’s where my parents are from, where most of my family live and where I’m surrounded by my culture. I’m so grateful for what Debate Mate has done for me, and I’d love to continue being part of the work they do.
Sooooooo this means I need to fundraise £1250 for the cost of teaching the programme. I know the rise of voluntourism is a massively underrated issue, and I’d hate to contribute to it. But the mentors chosen for this programme are not unskilled students looking to build some houses while on holiday. They’re committed, highly professional and skilled individuals who understand the difference this programme can make to a child’s development. It’s a lot of money, but I’m so so so thankful for anything you can donate.
