I've raised £1945 to Volunteer in a school in Woe, Ghana

Fundraising for my place on an exciting school proejct to visit North West Africa, specifically Woe in Ghana. Woe (pronounced Wo-ay) is a small rural town in Ghana's Volta region near the larger town of Keta.
The aim is to help support a local school by helping with building , teaching and sports education supporting those in need of help for a better future and a happier community.
About the project
As a current year 10 student, I have been offered a once in a lifetime and unique opportunity to volunteer within the local community and work at projects in a developing area of Ghana in Africa. The trip is taking place in April 2019. My school have teamed up with an organisation called African Adventures, which specialise in educational trips. Throughout this unparalleled opportunity, I will be able to experience a new culture and dedicate my time and effort to some incredibly worthwhile projects.
These projects offer key support for the local population and provide children with regular school meals, education, recreation and an opportunity to grow and learn. This trip will make a huge difference to those living in less fortunate surroundings and for me it will be both rewarding and a memorable life experience.
The areas which we will be spending time volunteering around are-
- Community work with unprivileged children
- Teaching some lessons in the schools (with lots of preparation and support from our own teachers)
- Playing and coaching football and multi-sport activities
- School improvement and renovation such as painting and decorating.

listed above. I am passionate about this trip as I want to help children who aren't as fortunate as me.
For the past 3 years my school has been working in partnership with African Adventures at Dedzidi School to help build class rooms, canteen & toilet facilities and more. I have the opportunity to take part in many activities including building new classrooms, teaching assistant and becoming a sports leader.
I will be running multiple fund raising events including a sponsored 40ft Abseil down Ecotricity HQ building in Stroud, attending Fete's / Events with stalls, making and selling Soya Wax melts / Soaps, Bath Boms and Shower Fizzers, Bag Pakcing at local supermarkets and much, much more!
Watch this space to find out more about my journey and thank you for reading (and hopefully donating!)
