Story

Our names are Phoebe and Chloe and we are currently pursuing our undergraduate degrees in psychology. We will be embarking on a two month journey in Sri Lanka with SLV Global to help with a cause that is very close to our hearts. We will be volunteering in psychiatric hospitals, schools and local communities to offer our support to those who need it most.

Mental health has been a cause for concern in Sri Lanka for a long time, with the civil war only ending in 2009 and the devastating tsunami in 2004, Sri Lanka is still recovering. The country has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and is significantly lacking adequate mental health resources and funding.

There is one psychiatrist for every 500,000 people (Basic Needs organisation) and most of these are concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural areas isolated from any kind of professional help.

By donating, you will be helping psychology students gain the training and experience needed to provide their much needed support to children and adults who are suffering.

Please give whatever you can, there is no donation too small!

Thank you
