Story
In summer of last year we saved up and bought Chloe a second hand wheelchair that she could self-propel and that I could push. (The one provided by the NHS is too heavy for me to push with back problems and the wheels didn't allow Chloe to push herself along- preventing her independence.
In October I decided to get it resprayed for Christmas for her and on advice from other special needs parents I asked various auto resprayers to quote me to do this.
We settled on a garage who quoted a reasonable price and dropped the chair at the workshop with the promise that it would be done in a week.
Long story short, he kept making excuse after excuse, even telling us to come and collect it but then being locked up when we arrived.
4 months on we are still without her chair and the man in question won't respond to calls, emails , visits or even letters from a solicitor.
Carers Together suggested we went round "with a couple of big blokes"!
The police informed us that it is breach of contract rather than theft so they cannot do anything.
Solicitor told us it would cost as much as a new chair to take him to court and all we would get even if we won is £500 as this is what we paid for her second hand chair.
Our local MP contacted the local press for us but apparently it's not interesting enough to run.
Therefore we are having to fundraise for a new chair to give her back her independence (and me my spine!) Unfortunately second hand chairs that fit her are few and far between as they are 'prescription ' items or fundraised for.
If we should ever be lucky enough to raise more than we need for her chair or are able to find a used one that fits her, additional funds would be used to purchase her a communication device to give Chloe a voice :)
Many thanks for reading this. Xxx

7 years agoThankyou all so much for your donations. Thanks to your generosity we managed to find and accessorise for Chloe a second hand wheelchair which is perfect for her needs. We also had money left over to fund her an ipad to use for communication and speech and a special needs travel bed. Thankyou all so much again. Lots of love from all of us and Chloe especially. Xx
