Story

For the last 2 years I have made the trip across to Morecambe Bay to take part in the Morecambe Bay Walk to raise money for the West Riding Masonic Charities Limited. I am once again taking part this year on the Sunday 12th May, with the walk starting at 11:15am.

My aim is to help raise more monies to support this amazing charity that helps members of its community - through grants, schemes for vulnerable and frail members as well as those in emergency situations.

Crossing Morecambe Bay is an unforgettable experience which can only be undertaken with an experienced guide. The Bay walk is usually guided by the wonderful Queen's Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson MBE. However, this year it will be done by Michael Wilson, a local fisherman of the area and now the official guide to the sands, who has kindly taken over.

This famous walk is approximately 10 miles long and should take about 4 hours to complete, depending on walkers speed and progress on the day. It starts at the pretty and picturesque promenade of Arnside and takes a scenic route along the bay, crossing the river at two points. The route affords plenty of panoramic views of the surrounding Lakeland hills and those of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The walk covers10 miles with the first few miles along the beach covering rocky ground, path and roads and then moves onto the sands at White Creek. During the walk I will cross the River Kent channel and will definitely be getting wet!
