Story

In November 2017 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, a few weeks later she told my sisters and me that she had been diagnosed with secondary’s in her liver.

So many people will understand how useless you can feel when a relative is diagnosed, my mum set the tone quickly. “Nothing changes” and “don’t treat me any different” were common phrases in the household. One evening on a walk she described her new challenge as “coming a cropper” she said she would fight her illness with every ounce of strength she has, she will dislike the fact I have just referred to it as an illness in this story! Anyone questioning her fight would be massively mistaken, she is leading the charge and we are all trying to keep up.

In an effort to give something back I will be fundraising for the cancer unit at Burton on Trent Hospital, hopefully my efforts will mean they can carry on giving my mum and so many others the treatment they need to take their fight to cancer!

On July 28th I will be canoeing across Scotland (the great glen canoe trail). As only the second time I’ve ever been in a canoe, it will be a huge challenge to travel the 60 miles in approximately 6 days. My close friend, and keen outdoorsman, Glen will be my guide.
