Story
There are no facilities in Bournemouth for disabled persons to play bowls on a fast running green, either because the grass greens are too heavy or there are no disabled wheelchairs available nor ramps to access the greens. Wet grass greens could also be damaged by both the chairs and players bumping woods as the greens are so heavy. Many children who for whatever reason don't play hockey, cricket, football or rugby would love to play this sport, but making small 0 or 00 bowls available for them (These sizes are impossible to buy, even second-hand at under £150 a set has been difficult as bowls clubs do not have this sort of money to buy enough for 20-30 pupils to play at once.I Many schools have expressed an interest in including bowls as part of their school curriculum, but do not have funds to purchase bowls either. It is Bournemouth's Bowling Clubs desire to convert their second green into a synthetic green for these purposes, and making the club an innovator in providing both disabled facilities and developing the sport for children. You help is needed to raise £50,000 to start this project ASAP. Unless the £50,000 target is reached we cannot begin this project.
