Story
I am running 2 marathons in 2 weeks (Bournemouth 07/10/18 & Chelmsford 21/10/18) on 2 dodgy hips to raise money for the Famagusta cat care project of Cyprus. The project is run by Lynn Gandy who has dedicated the last few years of her life to help the stray cats who live there.
There is a massive issue in Cyprus with stray cats and dogs and unfortunately animal cruelty too (just search Billy the dog Cyprus to gain a better understanding of type of things that happen). Cats & dogs have been found poisoned, beaten and even hung by some locals as a way of dealing with spiraling numbers. The current cat population outnumbers the human population and without a successful spay and neutering program this is only going to get worse. The Famagusta cat care project's aim is to trap, neuter/spay and release. They also help by feeding the current numbers and assist with injured & sick cats which obviously leads to the inevitable vet bills. Without Lynn's help these gorgeous animals face a life of suffering and the potential to "disappear" at any moment.
Whilst on holiday in Cyprus we were "found" by one of these stray cats who came to see us everyday. She was weary at first but we soon gained her trust. As the holiday went on our bond grew stronger and we even named her Melissa!! (pic below). By the last day, and having researched the topics mentioned above, there was no way we could leave her there to possibly "disappear" like so many others. We contacted Lynn on the last day and after various exchanges by email she said she would be able to help us find her and bring her back to the UK. Which is exactly what is happening. Much to our surprise it turned out that Lynn had done this for lots of kittens and cats who are now living happily around the world in safe and loving enviroments.
You can find out a little more about Lynn's work at the following sites: www.famagustacatcareproject.com or FCCP Facebook Page
I would be honoured if you would sponsor me for the challenge mentioned above so we can support Lynn in the great work that she does for the animals.
