Story
My brother has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness called adrenal leukodystrophy which means in time he will lose all motor functions, his sight and his swallow reflex. He will end up in a vegetative state, succumb to dementia and end his days on a life support machine. He is 38 years old. Chris is a very proud and private person who wouldn't want me to go into too much detail, but has had a series of health issues since early teens which we now realise are all linked to this diagnosis. Safe to say he hasn’t had it easy but in the past year or so we have seen him truly happy for the first time in his life. He is recently married to Sharon and had his gorgeous son Michael who is just 5 months old.
Chris is currently living in China where he received his diagnosis and although the Chinese doctors have given him great care so far, ongoing mental and physical support for Chris and his family is not their expertise and very limited. Chris being Chris, his primary focus is to make sure Sharon and little Michael are cared for now and in the future. Therefore we desperately need to get him and his family home, one because the UK lead the way in Mito diseases and secondly because our family can help take care of all three of them. This disease is genetic so Baby Michael will need to be tested. If Michael has the defected gene, we can plan ahead for treatment as the childhood onset is treatable.
Chris will not leave Sharon and Michael behind so our target is based on getting all three of them home to the UK. It covers Visa applications, flights, living costs, just for the first couple of months whilst the wider family groups together and assesses the situation. We are keen to see a specialist asap and may have to seek private healthcare as his diagnosis is time precious.

My two eldest daughters are devastated and within the first few days of hearing this news have already been out fundraising. Any donation will be gratefully received and no donation is too small.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts if you can feel you can spare anything to help get Chris and family home and looked after.
