Story
Maddie has been working to set up her own community organisation, Time Malawi, which aims to empower young women and girls in her home country of Malawi. She is currently in a village called Kauma on the outskirts of Malawi's capital city, Lilongwe, working on Time Malawi's first project, which is supporting women by helping them to set up and microfinance small businesses.
While in Kauma she came across this women and her 8 month old baby. While not part of the Time Malawi project Maddie is still keen to help her. The woman pictured is only 20 years old and is treated badly by her husband. He often leaves her 3 or 4 days without food. When Maddie met her she was crying, she hadn't ate for 6 days and her husband was telling her to leave and to go back to her family in Kasungu, 120KM North of Kauma. Her family won't take her back as they can't afford the extra mouth to feed and once married they expect the husband to look after her. The situation for her and her young child is clearly a dire one. For 80,000 Malawi Kwacha, about £90, Maddie can help this woman to get back to Kasungu pay for her first months food and to set up a business to provide her with income. If you would like to help us to help this women and her young child please let me know. Any donations much appreciated.
Hopefully we can smash through the £100 target and any surplus can be used by Time Malawi to help more women and girls in similar situations.
