Story

Through the online concert by Anna Marmion, Rhian Davies and Chris Pountain we are raising money for The Friends of St Andrew’s who provide regular support towards preserving and improving the fabric of this beautiful historic Church and its surroundings in Chesterton, Cambridge.

St Andrew’s Church, is a Grade 1 listed building in the heart of Chesterton, and as with all historic buildings there is always something to be restored or improved.

When the first lockdown was declared almost a year ago, the Friends of St Andrew’s had a series of lunchtime concerts arranged, which had to be cancelled.

This online concert is a way of celebrating this beautiful church, and helping to continue the work of The Friends of St Andrew’s in maintaining and enhancing the building and its surroundings.

Since it was set up in 1974, The Friends of St Andrew’s have contributed many thousands of pounds toward the upkeep of the Church building, including restoration work on the Doom Painting, window conservation and restoration, the installation of the glass doors on the north porch to make the building accessible to all, the new dais for the altar and steps for the lectern. Most recently they contributed £25,000 to the Organ Restoration Fund to make it suitable for the next 100 years and another £10,000 towards the new organ screen in the chancel.

Thank you for contributing to our fundraising.
