Mariella’s Mountain Movers – Yorkshire Three Peaks

On Saturday 26 September 2026, a team of Mariella Rose’s, college friends, work colleagues and family will come together to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in her memory.

Mariella’s Mountain Movers will be raising funds for the Mariella Rose Foundation.

Mariella tragically died in a road traffic accident on 30 March 2026, just 4 and a half minutes from home, on her usual journey to her part-time job. She was known for her kindness, infectious enthusiasm and determination to help others. She brought sunshine and joy into the lives of those around her.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge started as an idea between two of Mariella's Askham Bryan College friends David and Jacob and has now grown to a team of Mariella’s Mountain movers all walking together in her name.

Following Mariella’s tragic death, David and Jacob wanted to do something meaningful in her memory.

For David, organising a walking challenge was perfect. He and Mariella had shared walks during their time at Askham Bryan College, including trips to Brimham Rocks and Almscliffe Crag. They experienced the challenges, laughter and simple enjoyment of being outdoors together.

“Mariella and I really enjoyed walking together. She would definitely be doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks with me. Mariella had an amazing attitude – if we had an idea of a challenge like this, she would be the first to say, ‘Let’s do it!’

When the miles get tough, there is another of Mariella’s sayings that David knows will keep him going:

“You have to do it – you don’t know if you ever will get the chance again and will regret not trying!”

Those words have even greater meaning now.

Jacob is walking as, “Mariella was always very kind to me. I know that she was very supportive to David and a very good friend to him, I feel it is important to support David – he is going through such a difficult time and is struggling with a massive loss of such a good friend.”

Mariella was also Dyslexic and when she received her diagnosis found this gave her a sense of relief and confidence, because, as she said;

“If they had said I didn’t have Dyslexia, I would go through life thinking, what is WRONG with me?”

The vision is for a world where no young person has to say no to opportunity because of Dyslexia.

Funds raised through Mariella’s Mountain Movers will support the Mariella Rose Foundation’s work, including:

• Grants towards the cost of Dyslexia assessments for low income families

• Mentoring for young people in education and the workplace

• Mariella Meet-Ups, where young people can connect, share experiences, build confidence and have fun

• Recognition of young people who demonstrate Mariella’s values through the ‘Mariella Rose Rising Stars’ scheme.
