    Story

We've taken on the challenge of cycling through not 1, or 2 but 3 countries (Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam) to support the Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Programme!

Breathe Magic is an innovative intensive therapy programme for young people with hemiplegia; a weakness/paralysis on one side of the body resulting from a brain injury. It affects 1 in 1300 young people, making it very difficult or impossible for them to independently do many daily living tasks that we all take for granted; imagine trying to get dressed, do your hair, eat your dinner or make a cup of tea using only one hand...

This programme literally makes therapy magical and fun! Over a two week Magic Camp, every single trick and activity has been carefully designed to incorporate the NICE recommended occupational therapy exercises these young people need to improve their hand and arm functions while learning to become young magicians. How brilliant is that!

Its holistic approach impacts on these young people physical health as well as their emotional well being, independence and self esteem. The programme motivates participants to practice their exercises at home because they want to, which is almost impossible to achieve with traditional therapies!

We have seen first-hand the amazing work this programme does, and want to support it to reach and help even more young people with hemiplegia across the country. The programme is available on the NHS in a small number of areas, meaning that families from elsewhere have to privately finance their child’s place on the programme. Your donations will help support further development of the programme, and see that those who are unable to afford to attend the programme are able to do so, and have the opportunity to truly make a long lasting impact on these children’s lives.

Take a look at these videos here to see the programme's impact on these young people:
