    Story

    Hi folks!

2020 has been a bit of a weird one for everyone, we all know it. I’m proud to say that I’ve been lucky enough to have a network of family, friends and colleagues that have been there to support each other this year. With that in mind we’d like to give a little something back to some of those in our community who haven’t been quite as lucky this year and bring a bit of seasonal cheer into their lives.

We will be running a toy drive this year in the run up to Christmas with the aim of delivering the gifts to several charities/organisations in the week of 25th December 2020 and we need all the help we can get. We understand that it has been a very difficult year financially for a lot of people but if you can spare a little extra it would be greatly appreciated. The idea would be to pick up 1 extra toy to the value of around £10 whilst completing your Christmas shopping for any age between 3 months and 13 years and we will deliver it to a child who may otherwise be waking up to a bare stocking this year.

Donations for the drive can be made in several different ways –

    • Suggested donation of £10 on the JustGiving page

    • Order a toy online and have it delivered to Nando’s Bedford Street

    • Alternatively, we can accept toy donations to Nando’s Bedford Street at an arranged time – please call the restaurant in advance

With all the current COVID restrictions having an item sent to the restaurant directly may be the best option for most people. Toy drops need to be made at the restaurant at the allocated times and not directly to the charities. Please ensure that you adhere to all current government safety guidelines. Toys must new with tags attached or boxed, unwrapped and received by Sunday 20th December 2020. Any money pledged on the JustGiving page will be used on a toy store shopping trip before we make the donations. Info on the charities will be forwarded on shortly. Once again, this is only IF you can afford to do this.

I hope this note finds you well and if you have any questions about it please give me a call in the restaurant (028 9043 4442).

Thanks, much love and Merry Christmas,

    Sam.

Our service is available for those who have presented as homeless to the Housing Executive. It is intended for families, but we don't use a rigid definition for what constitutes a family. Currently Glen Alva is housing 77 people, 45 of whom are young children. At Glen Alva, each family is assigned a qualified Key Worker, who works alongside the family to complete support plans and risk assessments. Once these have been set up, families are referred to the external support agencies.
