Cian's Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge
The Welsh 3 Peaks is a hiking challenge to climb the three highest mountains in Wales; Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), Cadair Idris, and Pen y Fan - all within 24 hours.
Cian has decided to take on this incredible challenge to raise money for a local charity close to his heart: Harry's Fund.
In 2016, Cian was 2 years old when he was involved in a devastating car crash. Cian, dad Alex and mum Rebecca - who was 8 months pregnant - were all traveling together on the M4, Margam, when they came to a stand still and another driver crashed into the back of them at +70mph. Alex and Cian survived but sadly Rebecca and Cian's unborn sister, Cari, were killed by the impact.
Cian suffered two broken legs, a fractured skull, collapsed lung, and multiple facial lacerations. He was treated at the scene and flown by Wales Air Ambulance to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital where he spent a week after receiving immediate life-saving surgery.
Cian has received, and still receives medical treatment and mental health support from across the UK. But it wasn't until 2023 following his last fundraiser for the Wales Air Ambulance that we were introduced to Harry's Fund.
Harry's Fund is a small, community-focused charity based in Cian's home town of Pontardawe, set up in 2012 in memory of Harry Nye Patterson after his tragic death. The charity provides support for local people, especially children and young people with a focus on recreation, well‑being, and mental health.
Harry's Fund has played a vital role in Cian's life. Cian has tried several forms of therapy over the years but Harry’s Fund provided him with bereavement counselling to help him understand his grief and trauma. They have made a massive positive difference to his life - helping him heal, cope, and move forward.
Now, aged 10, Cian wants to give something back. Every step he takes up those mountains is in memory of his mum and sister, a thank-you to Harry’s Fund, and a step toward helping other young people access the support they need.

How they help:
Support for local people, especially children and young people in Alltwen and nearby areas, with a focus on recreation, well‑being, and mental health.
Bereavement and crisis support, offering grants, funding, or donations aimed at those dealing with loss—whether through local groups or directly to individuals to help cover counselling costs.
Development of community amenities, including plans for a public park in Harry’s memory to serve as a hub for leisure and social welfare.
