Story
On the 9th December, I will be providing the homeless with supplies in an attempt to tackle the amount of deaths caused from sleeping rough and to also provide a fresh start to those stuck in the vicious cycle and trauma of homelessness, especially during the festive season that we all look so forward to. I will also be on a mission to find and share the stories of those who live on the streets, in an attempt to challenge the public perception of our homeless community.
Homelessness has rose 169% since 2010 and the deaths of those sleeping rough has doubled in the last 5 years. At least 440 people sleeping rough (or in temporary accommodation) died last year, with their bodies being found in shop doorways, supermarket car parks or tents in the woodland, with some lying dead for months before being discovered. These were caused by many different issues including suicide, murder, illnesses and prolonged starvation amongst many. These deaths are premature and entirely preventable - and we can help fight it.
Donations will go towards basic items such as snacks, water, hot drinks, vouchers, clothes, blankets, hygiene items, pet food and if any spare money is not used on these items, please be assured that every donation will go to a local homeless charity.
