Story
The Tired Paws Foundation was set up in 2019 to support the rehoming and veterinary expenses of Prison Service patrol and detection dogs.
During their working lives these dogs make an enormous contribution to the security and safety of prisons and the communities in which they are situated. They are highly trained members of the workforce and are instrumental in preventing escapes, maintaining order and control, detecting and preventing drugs, alcohol, explosives, firearms, mobile phones and other contraband from entering establishments.
Upon retirement (due to injury or end of service life) the responsibility for rehoming, either personally or to members of the general public, falls to the Dog Handler. As there is no specific funding provided for retirement all associated costs need to be covered by the rehomers/adopters.
Securing insurance for patrol dogs is impossible due to their training and nature of their work. As many of the dogs have pre-existing medical conditions insurance companies will not cover any ongoing associated costs and these need to be met by the owners.
The Tired Paws Foundation is committed to ensuring that all Prison dogs continue to lead comfortable, healthy, pain free lives during their retirement. After years of loyal service this is exactly what they deserve and with your help, the Foundation can continue to achieve this commitment.
The Tired Paws Foundation is a not for profit group run by volunteers. All donations are used solely for the purposes of ensuring a good quality of life is maintained via rehoming and provision of un-insurable veterinary care.
