Story
We are fund raising for John Hunt (a much loved husband to Sarah, father to Lily and George , son of Gloria and brother to Martin and Claire) who is suffering with terminal cancer and in need of help to pay for a downstairs wet room and a holiday/days out (along with a carer to accompany him) - we want him and his family to be able to enjoy life and make the most of the time that they have together.
John is 49 and has suffered with health problems since his teens - Ankylosing Spondylitis with associated uveitis has left him partially sighted and unable to work for the past two years.
Six months ago he was diagnosed with cancer of the spine, liver, lungs and brain which developed after having a melanoma (skin cancer).
After undergoing spinal surgery to relieve the compression caused by the tumours, he was treated (for four months) with target therapy to hopefully shrink them. At first we were hopeful as the treatment did seem to be working, but on his last hospital scan - just a week ago - he was told that the treatment was no longer working, the tumours had grown (especially in the brain and liver) and that no further treatment would be funded. We are currently looking into alternatives and are hopeful that there is a suitable treatment out there.
John has a wife and two young children [Lily who is 6 and George who is 2]. John’s wife continues to work full time and the family are existing on her salary and John’s Disability Benefit - this hardly covers the household expenses and childcare.
John is confined to a wheelchair being paralysed from the waist down due to the spinal tumours; he has carers four times a day to attend to his medical and personal needs. He cannot get upstairs and has to sleep on a hospital bed in the lounge and be bed bathed by his carers. We would like to fund a desperately needed downstairs wet room to allow John some dignity and independence.
We would also like to fund a holiday or even some days out to help build some special memories for the children. As well as taking the cost of the actual trip into account, John would also need to pay for a carer to accompany them to attend to his various complex needs during the day.
Please help John to be able to enjoy the small things we all take for granted.
Thank you.
