Story
My brother Daniel is a junior footballer who signed recently for Yoker Athletic and is studying Sports Coaching. He is currently on holiday in Madrid and suffered an injury while playing 7 asides with family friends. Unfortunately, he received a serious injury to his knee and now requires an operation. He attended an NHS hospital and was then assessed by a specialist who has previously worked for Atletico Madrid Football Club. He confirmed that Daniel required an MRI scan and surgery to repair the serious damage to ligaments in his knee.
Because Daniel's livliehood and passion is football, keeping fit and coaching sport, it is crucial that he receives this treatment as soon as possible.
The insurance company to which Daniel has a years policy with have been back and forward, authorised the surgery to go ahead on Friday and again verbally on Monday however, withdrew again and again. The only help they offered in the end was a flight home.
On arrival, to the airport they withdrew all insurance cover on the basis that Daniel had not provided a 'Fit to Fly Letter' from the doctor. However, he had previously told them that they would need to get this as the specialist would not provide this or sign a letter for Daniel to fly home.
Axa/Coverwise insurance medical staff did not provide a fit to fly letter and therefore, Daniel did not fly home and is now stranded in Madrid. He will not receive a fit to fly letter without having the surgery and therefore, the MRI scan is going ahead NOW and surgery to follow because of the seriousness.
EasyJet airline were very helpful and supportive of how serious all of this is.
He needs help as soon as possible so if anyone can help in any small way I would greatly appreciate it and more!
We are now just emotionally drained with it all but most importantly Daniel is suffering and needs help and support. I'm so angry and upset and just want him to be ok.
Thank you so much, Claire (Daniel's sister)

7 years agoI just want to say thank you to all of you for all the generous and such kind donations. We are grateful, thankful and overwhelmed with this support and complete kindness. Daniel has now received the MRI scan and usually results take 7-10 days, the specialist doctor understands the seriousness of Daniel's injury and therefore, provided the results there and then. The scan has confirmed 5 separate injuries to his knee! Hopefully the operation date will be confirmed tomorrow. Thank so you much again for ALL support!
