Story
I’m setting myself a big challenge — to swim the distance of the English Channel from Dover to Calais… but in the slightly warmer and calmer waters of my local swimming pool!
The English Channel is 22 miles, which works out to 1,452 lengths of a 25m pool. At the moment I can only manage about 20 lengths at a time, so this is going to be a real test of determination and perseverance.
I’m also hoping this challenge will help me get fitter and lose some weight, and give me a goal to keep me motivated — one length at a time.
Alongside the personal challenge, I’m hoping to raise money for a cause that is very close to my heart: dementia support. Any money raised will be split between the Pendlebrook Care Home Dementia Café, which supports people living with dementia and their families, and the Pendlebrook Care Home Residents’ Fund, which helps provide little extras and treats that make life more enjoyable for the residents.
This challenge won’t be quick or easy, but every length will take me a little closer to “France”!
