In memory

Story

Dad (Billy Mahoney) sadly passed away on Tuesday 22nd August from a complication of having Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurological condition caused by the premature loss of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain. A protein called tau builds up in certain areas of the brain and forms into clumps (neurofibrillary tangles), which are believed to damage the nerve cells.

It is an awful disease which takes everything from a person. It takes away your mobility hindering you to a wheelchair and eventually becoming bed bound, you can no longer swallow so you loose the pleasure of eating and drinking, you loose your speech so you can no longer talk to your loved ones, your eyesight is affected so you can no longer look up or down and you loose your smile as your facial expressions freeze.

Dad had great courage in donating his brain and spinal cord for medical research and we know he would be absolutely delighted if you can make a small donation to the PSP Association to help fund more research and hopefully the ultimate aim would be to find treatment and a cure.

Thank you kindly.
