Story

Distraction Boxes ......

are just what it says on the tin! They are individual boxes filled with small items to take sick children & adolescent's minds off their reason for being in hospital. They can contain things like fidget toys, squishies, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, colouring books, pencils, pens, felt tips, teething rings, books, loom bands etc. Being in hospital is a scary time & these boxes can help ease the associated discomfort. Not only are these good for younger children, the boxes also help those that may not feel ill in themselves but need to stay put, like those with broken limbs. They are also extremely helpful for those who self harm &/or are suicidal or simply to keep hands & heads busy for a while.

The brain & head injury charity "Headway" have the funding to provide the boxes initially but not to keep the boxes filled, as each boxes' content goes home with the patient. My daughter Sophie is a registered Children's Nurse on the Children's Ward here in Blackpool & will be over-seeing the re-stocking & re-filling along with another member of staff, so I can reassure you these will be kept full & ready for each patient admitted.

I understand its coming up Christmas & money's tight, but if all my friends & family can give just 50p or £1, I know these boxes can make a real difference to children's lives, & you'll get a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside!! xx
