Story

My husband David Stones in cycling Lands End to John O Groats (1200 miles) at the tender age of 51.

David is hoping to raise some funds to help a local group of volunteers buy goods to fill shoeboxes, which will then be distributed to people in need.

The ride will be un assisted. He will wild camp along the way and aims to travel 100 miles per day.

The ride will begin on 10th April 2019 and he aims to complete the ride on easter Sunday.

Each year a group of volunteers on the Isle of Skye work extremely hard to wrap shoe boxes in gift wrap and fund raise to purchase items to fill the boxes. Each box it is estimated takes at least £10 to fill, and must include basic items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, hat, gloves, paper, pencil and any other item deemed suitable for the recipient, such as a toy for a child.

These are items most of us take for granted but are desperately needed by the people who receive the shoe boxes.

Last year the Mingunish Village hall sent over 1000 filled shoe boxes to those in need. That‘s a lot of money needed to buy items and a lot of time spent tirelessly wrapping and filling boxes.

We are not trying to bypass the charity, but aim to raise funds to be used by a local volunteer group on the Isle of Skye, who are recognised by the charity, to allow much needed items to be purchased.

David can be followed on Strava so you can check his progress.

Thank you for your support.
