Story
As the Classical Society from Surbiton High School, we're leading an incredibly exciting project to try and restore our very own genuine casts of the Parthenon Marbles.
The relief of our casts is extraordinary, with the horses' veins clearly visible, and we believe that they may be one of the earlier impressions. Indeed, they actually hold far more detail than the originals that have been vandalised and eroded over the centuries.
However, the casts currently reside on a wall in a secluded part of our school, where the main hall once was, and are partially concealed by a cupboard – denying generations of students and guests the opportunity to enjoy their splendour and historical significance.
Our aim - through 'Project Parthenon' -is to raise enough money to restore our plaster casts to their full glory.

7 years agoThis is the current state of the marbles. You can see here the extraordinary relief and detail of these casts. But they are covered in layers of paint (some white and some a very strong green!) that have been put there over the years due to the fact that the discovery of the true value of these casts was only very recent. There are also ink spatters, marks where they have been bolted onto the wall, incorrect ordering of the pieces, and – outside the frame of this picture – a cupboard door slicing between one section and another.
