Story
Update Claudia is in ghana and working hard in the school and supporting children who need medical treatment.
today alone (4th oct) that treatment will cost over £100 so dig deep and share ..
My name is Claudia and in September I will be travelling to Ghana to volunteer in both a preschool and primary school for almost 3 months.
I am fundraising to support myself and take out much needed supplies. I will be based in the lake Volta region one of the poorest regions of Ghana. Near the lake most children struggle to get to school each day as the family may be unable to afford but more often they are needed to help at home.
In the nursery I will be working with young children to support their development and encourage independence and social skills. I will need to take durable toys and play equipment which can be reused as things can get worn out quickly.
In the primary school I will be helping children with writing, spelling and basic adding and subtracting. In the evening I will be doing outreach activities such as arts and crafts and stories. I am hoping to provide water and snacks as some children may be malnourished or may have walked a distance in the heat to get to class sometimes up to 2 hours!
I would like to take out washable sanitary pads for the older girls, most girls don’t attend school when on there period because they cant afford to purchase them.
I will be also be doing outreach projects in the local communities with some of the poorest families to help with access to water filters, which I will be able to buy in Ghana and give out.
I have been saving for a while, and have already raised £1500 out of a fund-raising target of £2000 which will make a huge different whilst I'm out there. If I raise more then I should be able to do more good work when I am out there.
