Story
Hello everyone
My name is Anyès and I am 13 years old. In March 2025 I will be part of a group from my school and with African Adventures, volunteering to help teach children and renovate a school in a developing area in Kenya.
Whilst I am there, I will help to build and repair parts of the school and also assist in teaching and coaching their pupils The school is struggling because classrooms are overcrowded, there is a lack of resources, in adequate facilities and a lack of food security.
In schools it is common for classrooms to have up to 60 children and just one teacher and most schools cannot afford to provide students with basic resources. Not all children are able to go to school and most schools lack the facilities to provide each student with a quality education, which most people in the UK take for granted. A large number of the students that attend schools in Africa are living below the international poverty line. This is why volunteers are so important.
In this experience I hope to make a difference to these children’s lives and help towards giving them a better future. This experience will be a valuable experience and I hope to learn the value of my education.
As this is a charitable venture a big part of the experience is to raise money towards funding the trip, as such , I will be trying to fundraise as much as I can.
As part of my fundraising I will be attempting to cycle 100 km (60miles) in a day. This is equivalent to cycling from Sheffield to Leeds and back!
This won’t be easy as I am not used to cycling! But I am sure with lots of training and support I will be able to accomplish this challenge. I will also, be organising other smaller fundraising events.
Please could you kindly donate some money, even if it’s just a few pounds, so you can join me in making a positive change in the world, even if it’s just a small one. Anything will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much
From Anyès x
