Story
Freddie is one of three puppies born in March this year with a serious congenital heart defect. Tragically, we lost his sister at just 14 weeks, which brought our attention to this devastating disease. The organs continue to grow inside the body while the outside does not. Freddie is now 5 months old and has the most playful, beautiful character and personality, but he is tired all the time.
After losing his sister, our vet referred us to a specialist heart consultancy in Cardiff who confirmed that the prognosis is not good; he only has a few weeks to live at most but could die from a heart attack at any time. They referred us to Bristol Heart Vets, where there is one surgeon in the UK who could potentially save Freddie’s life with surgery. I have used every last penny to pay for treatment and fees so far, and I just have nothing left.
The prescription medication Freddie is on, Alenolol, a beta blocker that slows down his heart, gives him a better quality of what little life he has left. But it also gives us time—time to raise the funds we need within just a few days. He is not in pain; he lives a normal playful happy life for now. He is loved deeply.
My heart aches over the loss of his sister and her sudden decline until she had to be put to sleep by the vet because she was in so much pain and simply couldn’t breathe. I don’t want that for Freddie. He deserves a chance! To see him, you would not think he was ill; however, he grows more tired with each passing day.
He does this adorable “flangy” thing where he lays on his stomach with his arms and legs stretched out like a froggy pancake! This helps keep his body temperature down—he's so clever! He has a ‘cool mat’ which he lays on all the time and a solid paddling pool with fresh running water that he climbs in and out of because the cold water soothes him.
Freddie is full of licks and love; he wants to play more but you can see he's too exhausted. He must be carried carefully so we don’t put pressure on his heart, and we can’t really hug him because it overheats him. He can manage going up stairs but struggles going down; it was an achievement to see him progress one step at a time.
It doesn’t matter how big or small your donation is; every little bit adds up and will help immensely. Our target amount is £5,500 GBP for Freddie’s surgery—please consider contributing today!
