Story

The present Parish Church is 600 years old this year, and during that time there have been some 37 vicars (including Rev Margaret – our present incumbent).

During the summer I will climb the equivalent of Mt Everest by ascending 19 hills in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and in addition to that also climb the Three Yorkshire Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, which in total will be the equivalent of climbing the 29,000ft of Mt Everest.

Every 1000ft climbed I will plant a small cross in the ground for each one of the people who have served our community as vicar, and will also offer prayers of thanksgiving for their work and ministry among those they served.

I will also climb Ben Nevis, Mount Snowden and Scafell Pike, thereby adding an extra 10,250ft which will take me well over the goal of 37,000ft (1000ft for each of the vicars who have held post since the present Church was built in 1418).

This challenge is being undertaken to raise funds for the ongoing work and ministry of Easingwold Parish Church among the people it serves. I do hope that you might be able to sponsor me and support me in this venture - it will encourage me immensely as I seek to achieve this somewhat daunting goal.

Many thanks in anticipation

John
