    Story

The present Parish Church is 600 years old this year, and during that time there have been some 37 vicars (including Rev Margaret – our present incumbent).

During the summer I will climb the equivalent of Mt Everest by ascending 19 hills in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and in addition to that also climb the Three Yorkshire Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, which in total will be the equivalent of climbing the 29,000ft of Mt Everest.

Every 1000ft climbed I will plant a small cross in the ground for each one of the people who have served our community as vicar, and will also offer prayers of thanksgiving for their work and ministry among those they served.

I will also climb Ben Nevis, Mount Snowden and Scafell Pike, thereby adding an extra 10,250ft which will take me well over the goal of 37,000ft (1000ft for each of the vicars who have held post since the present Church was built in 1418).

This challenge is being undertaken to raise funds for the ongoing work and ministry of Easingwold Parish Church among the people it serves. I do hope that you might be able to sponsor me and support me in this venture - it will encourage me immensely as I seek to achieve this somewhat daunting goal.

    Many thanks in anticipation

    John

Presently reached 24,000ft and heading off to Scotland on Tuesday to climb Ben Nevis, followed shortly thereafter by Scafell Pike and Snowden. Seen some amazing views/scenery, and had some brilliant weather. Expect to reach my 37,000ft target by end of August and will update again then. Thanks for your support and encouragement, Gratitudinally yours John

That should have been Ayton Great Moor on the last update - and not Cringle Moor which I did earlier.

Many thanks to those who are supporting me in my present challenge to climb 37,000ft during Jun-Aug as I raise funds for the ministry of St John’s Church in Easingwold. Progress so far had been steady and I have reached the 14,000ft mark by adding Live Moor, Bilsdale West Moor, Round Hill, Cringle Moor, Black Hambleton, Noon Hill, Low Moor, Carlton Moor and Whorlton Moor [See pictures below]. I will provide a further update towards the end of July. With every blessing to you and yours John
