Story

As a family, we have looked for charities that we feel are both meaningful and close to our hearts that we can raise money for in Ben’s memory. Me, my mum and dad have now chosen this specific charity together. It is a local charity that creates memory boxes and supports bereaved families after they have suffered a stillbirth or child loss of those who are taken far too soon from the world. A charity called Abbie’s fund that was set up in memory of Abbie Grace Cowell who was born sleeping in 2010.

You may ask how or why this is relevant to us as a family or to Ben’s memory and there are a number of different reasons. When Ben passed away me and my mum created our own memory boxes that bring us so much comfort on the worst days, they are a time for quiet reflection. The fact that this charity makes that possible for other people has honestly overwhelmed us all. Just before Ben passed away we found out I had just got into university to train to become a Midwife, he was so proud of me for this and there isn’t a single doubt in my mind that if he was still here he would be just as driven and passionate about raising money for Abbie’s fund as we are. We wanted to raise money for a small, local charity and we believe Abbie’s fund is such a worthwhile cause.

Some of the greatest comfort we take in losing Ben is the 25 years we got to spend with him, we have photos, videos and amazing memories of the time we spent together however for the families supported by Abbie’s fund this is sadly not the case. To even be able to take Ben’s memory forward and be a part of this amazing charity is a privilege.

On Wednesday 29th July 2020 we aim to complete the Three Peaks Challenge #ClimbingforClarky
