Story
Clovelly Pilot Gig Club is the oldest gig club in North Devon, providing opportunities for local people to experience the fastest-growing watersport in the UK, appreciate the ruggedly beautiful Devon coastline, and keep fit at the same time!
Our wooden gigs Christine H and Leah C are named after Christine Hamlyn who did so much to restore Clovelly in the 19th century and Leah Cawsey, the mother of Donald Cawsey and mother-in-law of Sid Ford, the two men who built them. The gigs live on the stony beach at Clovelly, which exposes them to the Atlantic weather throughout the year. We'd like to build a proper gig shed for them, so we can protect them from the weather and carry out repairs and maintenance to keep them seaworthy.
It will also give us somewhere to train when the weather is just too fierce for even our most hardened rowers.
The shed is going to cost almost £20,000, and we're looking to raise half of that through donations and other funding sources. Please donate whatever you can - we'll be very grateful, and you'll make two wooden ladies very happy!
