Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Crowdfunding page.

Myself and my brother Paul will be taking part in the Belfast Marathon this year. We have chose to run for S.A.M.H.I, we hope to raise this amount to support their effort to ‘change the face of mental health’ to tackle one of the most frequently ignored problems facing our society, mental health & suicide.

As mentioned in a previous post, issues surrounding mental health have been stigmatised for too long all across Northern Ireland, ROI and the UK with the facts and figures of suicide rates in young men further backing up the lack of openness to discuss our mental health.

You can read over the statistics in awe at the rising rates of suicide in young men but a single life lost as a result of suicide is one life too many, the aim of us doing this is to emphasise that whether it’s a family member, a friend, work colleague or a team mate, there is always someone you can confide in.

Even if you don’t feel comfortable talking to someone you know there is still plenty of help available. Take S.A.M.H.I group as an example, a local group in the Greater Shankill that is devoted to helping those suffering so badly with mental health issues that they feel taking their life is a viable option. Suicide is not the answer to anyone’s problems, not matter how long or short a time it takes there is always a solution to your problems but you don’t have to ride the rough seas alone.

What your donation does is help S.A.M.H.I continually provide their essential therapy and counselling sessions through Hope Zone, raising awareness throughout the community and beyond, as well provide the community with Suicide Prevention. Your donation may well save someone’s life.

If you are feeling low or need someone to talk to don’t hesitate to contact the following charities:

Lifeline on 0808 808 8000

Samaritans on (028) 90 664 422
