I'm raising £600 to improve end of life care

Having lost four people who are very close to me I’ve seen how everyone should be allowed to spend their final days in dignity. My mother was denied that and died in hospital of a hospital acquired infection and died alone. My father was able to spend his last 14 hours in a hospice and I was allowed to spend it with him. My uncle was able to pass in a way of his choosing and our German friend in was able to spend his last month with the support he needed and was even able to cook for other residents. This has shown me the difference in provision for end of life care.

I intend to increasingly challenge myself. I have only run two 5ks in my life (one was a fun run around Chasewater when I was 15, the second a colour run whilst working at Shelfield). In 2026 I will do one 5k (to get the ball rolling); in 2027 three 10ks (Wolverhampton, Yeovil plus another to be decided); scaling up to running the Drachenlauf course https://drachenlauf.net (21k up the Drachenfels and surrounding Siebengebirge) which over looks our German friend’s home before I turn 50.

Any money I raise will go with 1/3 to Goscote Hospice in Walsall (providing dignified end of life care for people often allowing their pets to remain with them https://www.walsallhealthcare.nhs.uk/our-services/palliative-care/facilities/palliative-care-centre/), 1/3 to Wolves Foundation (as a tribute to my mother and do wonderful work with Wolves Memories to support fans living with dementia https://foundation.wolves.co.uk/what-we-do-2/health-improvement/) and 1/3 to Hospiz am Waldkrankenhaus Bonn staff (who took such wonderful care of our German friend and made his friends and family welcome every day https://www.johanniter.de/johanniter-kliniken/johanniter-kliniken-bonn/medizin-pflege/pflege/johanniter-hospiz-am-waldkrankenhaus/).
