Story

Colchester Children's Charity Appeal was founded in 1988. Since this date, the charity has gone from stength to stength due to all the wonderful volunteers and very kind donations of items, which in turn are sold to raise funds in their shops. The charity is a grant giving body who help families with sickness, terminally ill and disabled children in the Colchester and Tendring area. My son has autism so this is a cause close to my family and friend’s hearts.

Myself and 9 other work colleagues are passionate about raising money for this great cause so we are competing in the Nuclear Races ‘Blast’, located near Brentwood, on Saturday 8th September 2018. See link for further information: nuclear-races.co.uk.

This charity is a lifeline to some families, especially in light of on-going cuts to services and funding. We know of many local children and families who have benefited from the Colchester Children's Charity Appeal which has made a significant difference to their lives by impacting on their general well-being, education and health. For example, families having support to fund Occupational Therapy assessments which include sensory processing difficulties. These assessments have made a positive difference to the lives of disabled children in school and at home.

The Nuclear Race is going to be physically challenging but this is nothing compared to what some families have to face on a daily basis when caring for disabled and terminally ill children. Some of the challenges can be due to lack of services and funding which is why this charity is so important and awareness needs to be raised for the fantastic work they do.

I will upload pictures after the race!

Thank you.
