Story

We have a 9yr old son Cole, when he was almost 6, he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, (DMD) This came as a total shock to our family and we were totally devastated with the diagnosis. DMD is a progressive, muscle wasting condition. It's caused by a fault in the dystrophin gene, which means Cole's muscles cannot repair themselves, instead the muscle degrades and turns into fatty, fibrous tissue, which then become to weak to use. DMD affects all the muscles in the body, usually starting with the loss of use in the legs, then the arms and eventually the lungs and heart. There is currently no effective treatment or cure for this condition and it is not only life limiting but 100% fatal Imagine being 9yrs old, and feeling sad because you can't run and keep up while playing with your friends, being in constant pain from muscle cramps, prone to falling as your legs are too weak to support you, eventually losing the ability to feed yourself, or give cuddles to your loved ones, spending the majority of your time in a wheelchair, being trapped in a body that is failing but your mind being totally active. Cole is starting to slow down and is losing his ability to walk for more than a few minutes, so while he can still get around we are wanting to make our garden totally accessible so not only can he access his garden now, but when he's a full time wheelchair user too. Family and friends are taking part in a 5k Colour obstacle rush to raise money and If you can help by donating a small amount, we would be so very grateful.
