Story
Our goal is for Kidderminster Carolian's Under 16 Team to successfully tour Canada in July 2023.
We believe touring Canada would be a once in a life-time opportunity for these kids, helping them grow & develop into rounded adults,
It costs £2,200 per child to tour Canada, with 27 committed (£59,400), each child is only being charged a nominal amount, with the rest coming from age group funds. The coaches have already paid the full adult price of £2,500, all monies raised will only subsidise the kids, not coaches.
Kidderminster Carolian's Under 16 rugby team are not a rich/heritage club, most of our kids come from non-rugby playing families, yet we have become a real Kidderminster Success Story. This year we reached the final of the 2022 North-Midlands Shield, narrowly losing to Bromsgrove. Last year, we developed 5 Players into Worcester-Warrior’s Academy, 1 into Irish Exiles, 1 Scottish Exiles & 1 Welsh Exiles. We have become one of the strongest teams in the West Midlands, regularly beating the traditional heritage clubs, much to their annoyance.
What makes that performance even more remarkable, is that all our players attend local Stourport/Bewdley/Kidderminster/Martley state schools, where rugby is barely played never mind coached. Most of the teams we play against draw their players from the excellent rugby playing private schools where rugby is extensively played from a young age but also coached to a very high standard. It’s not uncommon for them to have professional rugby coaches including ex-England internationalists with at least one having its own nutritionist. It’s a bit like David V Goliath.
Several years ago, as Under 12s two kids from our squad dropped out of a planned trip to a rugby festival in Devon, which we later found out was due to money worries. For a number of the player's families, money is a real issue. Since then, we have tried to fund activities from Age Group Funds. We do not want any kids to lose out due to money.
The Canada tour has been in planning for many years & we have a very active/successful fund-raising group. Unfortunately, COVID vastly impacted it, with 6 large money raising events being cancelled. This initially created a £12,000 “black hole” in our finances and although we have managed to raise another £6,000 that still leaves a projected shortfall of £6,000.
Although we are not a registered charity, we are a registered “Community Amateur Sports Club” CASC which means (I believe) any donations/sponsorship are tax deducted. Payments would not be to the coaches but to Kidderminster Carolian's Bank Account who are more than happy to share their finances.
Please help us with any donation you can spare, thank you.
