Story

I'm raising £2000 for disability support.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2021 I sustained a spinal cord injury following an accident at work. Initially I was totally paraplegic and told I would never walk again.

Through excellent treatment over the course of three months, at the Spinal Unit, Pinderfields, Wakefield I left being able to walk on sticks, albeit not far.

Key to my progress, and rehab, was the Spinal Unit Recreation Fund (SURF) which looks after the welfare of both inpatients and ex patients by funding essential equipment and social functions both in the unit and further afield.

The Spinal Injuries Association still provides me with key support and advice, alongside its' Community groups, where the chance to share experiences and learn from others is crucial.

I also managed to obtain excellent physio at the Police treatment centres, Harrogate which looks after current and retired officers. I have been there many times during my 30 year Police career and the service they provide is exceptional.

I benefited immensely from a variety of different treatments funded by the Transport Benevolent Fund (TBF) which looks after those in the transport sector in which I now work.

I have seen what these four charities have done for both myself and others and I would not be where I am today without them.

I want to put something back and raise funds for these worthy causes.

I also like a challenge. Although walking is difficult and painful, I aim to walk / climb/ crawl, to the top of Roseberry Topping, a hill near Great Ayton. With the support of a few others, I shall be doing this on Saturday the 5th of July 2025.

If you can spare a few quid to help me make this less painful, I would be extremely grateful.

All monies raised will be split between all four charities equally. But should you wish your donation to go to one cause in particular then please let me know.

Thank you.
