I've raised £1000 to help fund a day out for Columbus Discovery Club. In previous years we've managed to fund days out to London and the seaside

Story

Currently special needs schools budgets are tight and this puts a strain on the types of activities the children can enjoy on days out. Days out are a vital part of the children's lives as it is where they experience the most excitement and enjoyment. It is something we can take for granted, but is a rare and special treat for these children.

Sports Day aims to raise all the money needed to fully fund a day out to London, the seaside or the pantomime for the special needs children of Columbus School & College Discovery Club. The £41 needed per child (average cost of a day out) will get them coach travel, tickets, food & ice creams. The children of the discovery club love these types of experiences and if we can pull together to fully fund an additional, extraordinary day out for them then we should do all we can to do it.

How we are raising the money?

Sports Day ... A family fun day which includes teams (of any age, gender and ability) competing in a mix of sports to be crowned winner of Columbus Sports Day. There will be lots to do at the event for everyone, including a raffle, cake stalls, crafts stall, tombola, an ice cream van, a BBQ and a Bouncy Castle.

Team entry fees and profits from the day will go part way to reach the target and to reach the full amount we are looking to reach this target online. We offer the opportunity for personal donations along with sponsorships from local companies to make a difference in these children lives by advertising their business and donating. The sponsors will have their advert on the programmes that will be given to all people attending the event and will be shared across all social media channels.

Previous years, we managed to contribute towards sending the children to Clacton beach where they had fun in the multi-sensory environment of the sand, sea and ice-creams! We received some great corporate sponsorship from the Co-Op, Timpson and got coverage in the Chelmsford Weekly News.
