Story
My sister and my 6 year-old nephew are stranded in Mumbai after being told they could not board their flight home to Newcastle in the early hours of August 30th on the basis that Lisa's visa was no longer valid and was therefore not allowed to leave the country. A few of Lisa's friends have been in touch asking how they can help her and Shay get back to the UK as soon as possible so I have set up this page in the hope we can raise some funds to go towards their trip home.
They were refused, their bags were offloaded and they were escorted out of the airport at 4am with no money, nowhere to stay, no contact details for any authorities to help them and a dead phone. In India you need a visa to stay in a hotel so they were desperate. Fortunately, a guardian angel came to the rescue by the name of Manuel - a Spanish man who was also not allowed to go home that morning. Manuel has been looking after them while they try to arrange new travel documents (which has been an ordeal in itself) and let them stay with him. I cannot thank this man enough for what he's done for my sister and nephew so far!!!! We will be forever grateful.
Hopefully the paperwork will be sorted by tomorrow but Lisa has no money for the flight home and no way to repay as she is a student; the family are already helping where they can. The total cost for flights start at £1300 (24 hr journey via other parts of the world) up to £1900 (12 hr journey via London). The cheapest flights are over a week away and they've already been in India for 5 weeks, Shay has to go to school, and it's not safe for them to be there any longer - we want them home as quickly as possible.
So we are reaching out to our friends to help us raise £500 of the £2000 we need for their travel and accomodation (we will find the rest). Whatever you can spare, however small, would be hugely appreciated. Please contact me if you need any further details at kellybambury26@hotmail.com or on FB Kelly Hayward. Thank you so much!! xxx
