We have a large unused space behind our community centre which we want to transform into a community garden where families can come to learn about growing fruit, vegetables, other plants and wildlife. The space will also be used as an outside classroom and social space for the community to use and enjoy. Through consulting with local community they have told us that they need a safe space where children can come and learn about nature and conservation . The garden will help to improve the health and well being of families in the local community and at the same time provide opportunities for volunteers to develop transferable skills. Produce from the garden will become part of a small enterprise managed by volunteers as well as being used in healthy eating sessions at the centre where people learn about nutrition and healthy lifestyles for the whole family..
