Story
Malvern Town Football Club is looking to help the local community by raising money to help with fuel poverty, there's a real sense of community around the Pickersleigh area of Malvern but it's not without its problems or challenges, there are many in the area who rely on the food bank and would be considered close or on the poverty line, we want to support the most vulnerable people in the area by supplying our food bank with the ability to provide energy as well as food to the most vulnerable. Initially, we had taken inspiration from Marcus Rashfords campaign and wanted to support the need to reduce food poverty. We then thought about providing presents for Christmas but after speaking to Mick Nagle from the present bank, we realised that there was a difference being made locally and nationally for that matter, through a wonderful app called, the Present Bank and you can find that in the app store if you wish to make a difference in that way. After speaking with Action for Children, who are a fantastic charity working in the area, we have found that the wider Malvern community has been brilliant when supporting our local food bank, so much so that we've decided to channel our efforts into increasing the warmth or providing energy in the most needed homes in our community. Not being able to heat your house through the cold months can really affect your mental health, your ability to sleep, your ability to turn up for work with fresh clothes and basically, your ability to be your best self.
We are hoping to hit the cross bar 500 times across the Malvern area with people of all ages from the community encouraging people to stay active this summer, it is a monster of a challenge as we will expect to have to kick a football at least 12, 000 times between the community to make sure we hit the cross bar that many times, I'll be looking to get some guest appearances at our local football club to help me in my challenge which will hopefully help the most vulnerable in our community move away from the poverty line.
HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED I HEAR YOU ASK?
You can help by either donating money or by filming your own personal efforts and sending them to #MTFCcommunitycrossbarchallenge, please SHOW in the video that you have marked out either 6 yards, 12 yards or 18 yards depending on your age, if you are an adult please use the 18 yard line, if you are 10 + use 12 yards, if you are younger than 10, you can use the 6 yard line, we can't wait to see your efforts.
When we are 50 away from our target, we shall have a finishing/celebration day at the HDanywhere stadium for the community to enjoy.

3 years agoHi everyone, so far, we're 12% towards our target! We shall be visiting our partner club Leigh & Bransford Badgers and Newtown CP teams next to continue on our quest towards hitting 500 crossbars! All working towards supporting the most vulnerable in our community, who will be able to access energy vouchers for their home, as well as food, from the food bank. Helping push people further away from the poverty line and show that we care. BIG THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT SO FAR!! We keep going, Community Development Officer, Malvern Town FC.
