Story

Osward and I founded Mubende Stoves to manufacture and distribute improved cook stoves to families in our community. These stoves are far more energy efficient than traditional cooking methods; they use less firewood and emit fewer harmful emissions. This means that they protect families' health, wealth and environment. Because of the environmental benefits, the stoves earn Carbon Finance. This Carbon Finance is used to:

a) subsidise the cost of the stoves,

b) provide free annual maintenance of the stoves

c) fund sustainable community projects, decided upon by the communities themselves.

It has taken us 3 years to build the enterprise to a point where we have finally been able to register with the Carbon Bureau. It's a journey we are incredibly proud of. Our stoves are now tested and approved and ready to start earning the money which will transform the community and grow the enterprise. However, Carbon Finance will not be received for at least another year.... so, until that time, we need to find other ways of subsidising the stoves so that families can start to benefit NOW.

By twiining your kitchen with a kitchen in Uganda, you will help to kickstart this process - improving families' health, saving families' time and money and going a long way to protecting the local environment. Being a largely agricultural community who rely on the land for their survival, this last point actually combines all three!
