Story

Hello! And thank you so much for taking the time to visit our fundraising page 😊

We are currently living and working at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in South Africa, Jamie as the Vegan Chef and Connie as part of the integration team, introducing rescued monkeys into their new troops. The VMF is a sanctuary for orphaned or rescued vervets who usually arrive as a result of human-vervet conflict or the illegal pet trade.

The VMF offers a forever home to these vervets but wants to take this one step further by creating a protected forest where these vervets can be released into. This forest would not only offer the vervets a chance at freedom, it would also provide a home for other wildlife in the area and help to rebalance an ecosystem that is suffering greatly from deforestation.

This forest will be 300,000 hectares and each hectare costs £1'000. So in order to make this forest become a reality we would like to try and contribute to one whole hectare.

The vervet monkey is often considered a pest in South Africa. But we have seen first hand how intelligent and emotionally complex these individuals can be. Each one is deserving of a real chance in life and of our compassion and respect. Here at the foundation we take in babies whose mothers have been shot right in front of their eyes, individuals who have been left blinded by pellet guns, monkeys so injured they have suffered amputations - sometimes double amputations, ex pets who have never seen another monkey in their lives and suffer from abnormal behaviours, and we give each of these individuals the chance at life that was taken from them.

In order to fundraise for this cause we will be announcing a number of exciting projects and challenges coming up soon! So watch this space and be ready to see some real change in the world of animal conservation ❤
