Can you help us?

Consett Street Friends began in 2014. We work within the night time economy of Consett providing care and support to those in need. We work with the vulnerable and those in need who may find themselves in a vulnerable position due to excess alcohol or drug abuse. We go out at peak times during the month and have had huge success in the work we do.

Two members of Consett Street Friends, James and Claire are running the GNR to help raise funds for the project.

Chief Superintendent Ivan Wood of Durham police stated that: “Consett Street Friends is an excellent team of volunteers who give up their own time, generally at weekends, to help others.They make a big contribution by helping keep people safe when they are out drinking and socialising in the town centre... they help the emergency services and reduce demand on our resources".

We have also had the privilege of gaining national recognition of our scheme from Government Ministers at the Home Office and key national parters. Our scheme also came second in the Problem Orientated Partnership Awards (POP) at Durham Constabulary in 2016.

We need to ensure that money can come into the project due to the fact that we hand out flip flops for people who can no longer walk in their high shoes, bottles of water to help sober people up and also carry other things such as Emergency Foil Blankets. We also have additional ancillary costs such as warm jackets for the team members to ensure we are visible and can be seen to those who may need our help, backpacks, radios and running costs of the group.

Reaching our target of £500 will help to ensure the sustaining of our group and the work we do for the future months and hopefully beyond!
