On Saturday 31st May 2025, a team from Convatec Continence Care, Nurses from Aneurin Bevan Bladder and Bowel Team and Niall himself will be climbing 'Pen y Fan' the highest peak in South Wales to raise awareness and break the stigma around continence care.

This fundraising campaign has two powerful goals:

To support Niall McCann’s inspiring Arctic expedition—and to raise vital funds for the Aneurin Bevan's Bladder and Bowel Service that supports people like him every day.

In 2016, Niall—a seasoned adventurer and conservationist—suffered a severe spinal injury in a speedflying accident, shattering his dreams of ever returning to the mountains. But with determination, rehab, and the support of a dedicated bladder and bowel team, he’s defied the odds. Now, 9 years later, he’s preparing to climb Mount Asgard in the Arctic, a peak named by his grandfather, explorer Colonel Patrick Baird.

Incontinence can affect anyone, at any stage of life. It can be distressing and isolating, impacting dignity, independence, and overall wellbeing. The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s Bladder and Bowel Team provides life-changing, nurse-led support to people living with these conditions—helping them manage day-to-day life with expertise, compassion, and dignity.

Managing a spinal cord injury and bladder dysfunction in the Arctic is no small feat. Niall is tackling this challenge head-on with his brother Finn —not just for themselves, but for everyone facing similar struggles.

As a show of solidarity and support, a team from Convatec Continence Care, nurses from Aneurin Bevan Bladder and Bowel Team and Niall himself will be climbing Pen y Fan in South Wales to raise awareness and break the stigma around continence care.

Enhancing services provided by the Bladder and Bowel Team
