Story

In 2024, Coreen McIntosh, herself suffering from cancer, and Angie Mutch, coping with the effects of a brain condition, made a pact that they would walk a mile together to raise funds for palliative care staff at Roxburghe House as a way of thanking them for all that they do for terminally ill patients, and Veterans Tribe Scotland for the therapeutic activities they run for Veterans.

Devastatingly, Coreen died before they could do this together. Therefore, Angie, herself a Veteran, now recently out of her wheelchair, will undertake a sponsored walk in Coreen's memory. Angie will attempt to walk one mile for Coreen, one mile for herself, and a further mile for all those terminally ill people and Service personnel who didn't make it home. Every single penny raised will be split evenly between the 2 charities.

Coreen had an amazing zest for life. Always there for others, even in the midst of her own suffering, she never complained but was always focused on doing all that she could for her family, her friends, and all the students at the University of Aberdeen who she supported. She was, quite simply, the best of friends that anyone could have.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 7th May, 2025, at the Bridge of Don end of the beach front in Aberdeen. Anyone is welcome to join, as long as they agree that any money they raise be donated to these charities, preferably through this Just Giving page.

Friends of Roxburghe House charity will use the money raised to provide relaxation activites for staff. Providing palliative care for patients is emotionally draining, and although they never displayed anything other than care and kindness, Coreen very much wanted to give them the means by which they could enjoy kindness returned to them.

Veterans Tribe Scotland is a creative, wellbeing network connecting the Veteran community by providing creative, therapeutic events and activities for Veterans and their families throughout Scotland. This important charity allows lonely, isolated and anxious members of the Veteran community to meet others in their local area and online whilst learning new skills and developing coping mechanisms through creativity.

Please support this really important event. Your donation really will make a difference.

Thank you
