Story
I'm raising what I can, however small, to help towards health/medical costs for Stacey. She is simply one of the kindest, generous people I have the pleasure to know and has very sadly been given the most awful diagnosis recently. This is her story.
My name is Stacey, I turned 46 on the 8th of Feb. I’m a Mam to my kind, beautiful 11yr old boy and Fiancé to Dylan. An Aunty, Sister, Daughter, and Granddaughter.
I’ve been a Midwife since 2004, I’m a care provider, I look after people. I love to help and at the moment cancer has taken this away from me. I’m a busy person, normally I help in work to improve wellbeing for staff, I love supporting my son’s rugby team and watching them learn to love the game that I am so passionate about.
How did this start - after not being able to eat much and losing weight I was sent for tests and along with a hiatal hernia I was told that I had large tumour on my liver.
All over Christmas and New Year I had a further wait, and then tests and on the 26th of January I was told I had Stage 4 Cancer - Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma. This is a bile duct cancer with all of my tumours in the liver. It’s a nasty cancer and I was told it was’nt curable, surgery wasn’t an option as there are tumours in all areas of the liver and it would take me from my boys and family.
12 months was the estimate, how?
How do I explain this to my 11 year old son?
With his first comment being please don’t leave me. He is my world and I can’t imagine not being here to watch him grow up. I am not allowing this to take me without a fight, I will do anything to be here for my boys!
If you’ve happened to come across this page, thank you for taking the time to read my story. I’m going to be brave and ask for your help. I’m not someone who finds it easy to ask for help or money, but if you’re able to donate, my family and I would be truly, truly grateful.
Any amount, no matter how small, really does help, because all those small kindnesses add up to give me precious time.
The original go fund me page has been set up by Stacey’s friends/family to raise funds for life-prolonging cancer treatment, giving her more time with the people she loves.
Stacey is determined to fight this horrible Cancer which is increasing every year despite it being a rare cancer. Currently research has taken us to treatment not available on NHS that will hopefully help, one in particular called TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolisation) which is done in Germany but costs £10,000 a time and will need a few treatments. This treatment is offered in UK but only on very small tumours so is outside of the criteria. Histotripsy is another option but again due to the severity not eligible on NHS and would need to pay private at unknown cost at present.
She's also trying to incorporate as many alternative therapies into her life as possible, change her diet and lifestyle but it all becomes very costly, quickly. All of this will be done alongside advice of her Oncology team.
