This is an adventurous, fast-paced project. Partners tell us how enriching it is for their teams. Would you like to enable the next phase of the vision?

Cornwall Hugs Grenfell began on June 19th with with a facebook post: 'Imagine if we could put a Cornish holiday on the horizon of every Grenfell resident and firefighter family: a time to rest, a time to let our beautiful county bless these people and work its gentle magic.'

So far we have over 60 Grenfell families and 30+ firefighter families registered for holidays next year. This represents over 300 people. In 2017 we brought 175 people: Tower Survivors, the bereaved, displaced neighbours and firefighters.  We're liaising with 250+ accommodation providers, 140+ business sponsors and the media. It is more than a full-time job to convert hundreds of thousands of pounds' worth of pledges into well-crafted holidays for survivors and firefighters.

As the demand is growing fast, I've raised our target to £15,000.

It takes anything from 3-12 hours to convert each family's enquiry into a holiday in addition to the time needed to liaise with property owners.

This page is raising money for transport for guests and to help us with admin and logistics: the nuts and bolts of turning generous pledges into actual holidays for Grenfell survivors and firefighters.

Why can't volunteers do this ? The complexities of clients' current life situations and pledges make the booking process onerous. I am leading a very small group of lovely volunteers with ever varying patches of time, skills and availability. Everyone has 'day jobs' and family commitments including their own family holidays. Skilled volunteers can take on specific tasks but this booking system requires daily consistency and relationship-building rather than 'baton-passing'. We need to employ a dedicated administrator to turn pledges into holidays and so free me up to focus on strategy and scaling up.

Thank you for joining this vision. Cornwall Hugs Grenfell is the first (and only) campaign of charity Cornwall Hugs (charity number 1177796, approved April 201). Our trustee and treasurer is Andrew Holt, former CFO of international charity, Interhealth, who holds a diploma in charity finance and is a retired solicitor.

Such touching donations coming in. I wish I could contact you directly but the data protection seems to prohibit that as I can't see your emails. Thank you for giving something up, going without and just for bothering to support the work we're doing this year. 250+ guests are registered for holidays and we are working through the careful business of matching guests to accommodation as pledged. Among others, we've a group of seven survivor families coming in May and your donations are helping us put that visit together. Thank you!

Now in January and February, we're busy with lots of back-office work including the painstaking work of gathering holiday pledges and matching them to guests. Five families matched so far and over 60 to go :-). A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in 2017 and helped us reach our £10K target. Many people gave part of their Christmas budget and we are very appreciative of every sacrifice made. Our work continues and to bring the over 300 people registered, we have raised our target to £15K. Thank you all for your support. Esmé
